Ahead of Raksha Bandhan 2025, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced free bus travel for all women across the state. The initiative, launched as a festive gift to women, offers free rides on UPSRTC and city buses from August 8 morning until midnight on August 10.
What’s the Initiative?
All women, regardless of age or category, can travel free of cost on:
- UPSRTC buses (Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation)
- City buses operating in urban areas
This includes both intra-city and inter-city travel, enabling lakhs of women to reach their loved ones during Raksha Bandhan without the burden of transport expenses.
Special Focus on High-Traffic Cities
Recognizing the rush during festive times, the CM has directed special arrangements in major urban centres such as:
- Kanpur
- Lucknow
- Gorakhpur
These cities will witness enhanced services to manage the increased footfall, ensuring smooth and safe journeys for all women passengers.
A Festive Move with a Purpose
The initiative is more than just a transport scheme—it’s a symbol of care, empowerment, and inclusivity. Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, often sees women travelling long distances to visit family. This free bus travel program helps remove financial barriers and makes festive reunions easier and more joyful.
It’s also a step toward women’s empowerment and safety, showcasing the state’s commitment to providing accessible public transport and a secure environment for women.
